About Aviso HR
Aviso HR Associates is a network of experienced and qualified HR specialists founded by Mona M. Melanson, SPHR. Mona started Aviso HR after working in corporate human resources management in a number of different industries for 25 years. Mona began her HR career with property-casualty insurance companies at offices in New York City, Denver, and Campbell, CA. Mona then moved to Bank of America’s World Banking Division in San Francisco followed with international assignments in Hong Kong, Manila, and Jakarta. Mona went on to diversify her industry experience with a Midwestern Fortune 500 chemical processing and mining company and a smaller, privately held medical device manufacturer. After returning to California, she worked for a San Diego based design and development division of a global high tech electronics manufacturing company with a maquiladora in nearby Tijuana, Mexico.
Mona Melanson earned her B.A. from George Washington University in Washington D.C. and her M.A. from Newark State College, which has since become Kean University in New Jersey. In 1998, Mona achieved Lifetime Certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) from the Human Resources Certification Institute affiliated with the national Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM). Mona has served on the boards of the San Diego SHRM chapter and the San Diego Industrial Liaison Group. She has been a speaker or panelist on a variety of HR and related topics for various local and national groups. Four of her career development articles were published by the Wall Street Journal’s National Business Employment Weekly. Mona began her HR career after completing a stint as a Peace Corps Volunteer High School English teacher and teacher trainer in Thailand. She speaks conversational Thai and Spanish.
In addition to working in HR management, Mona has taught HR certificate courses at various universities. She was the instructor for “Recruiting, Interviewing, and Selection” at U.C. Berkeley Extension. Additionally, Mona taught the “HR and Compensation” overview course at George Washington University. More recently, she was an instructor at San Diego State University’s HR Certificate program teaching the “Health and Safety Management” course.
In 2006, Mona was selected by the California State Council of the Society for Human Resources Management to be one of four Team Leaders to write the Study Guides and accompanying review course materials for the first ever state HR Certification exam in the U.S. Mona led a team of HR subject matter expert writers that together wrote the Health, Safety and Security Study Guide in early 2007. Mona is also certified to teach the California State HR Exam Review Course.
Aviso HR Associates is a lean and nimble organization by choice. Each of our HR Consultants hold various professional certifications. These certifications ensure the quality of the expertise that we bring to each of our consulting assignments. Each consultant, at minimum, has obtained either their Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) or Professional in Human Resources certifications (PHR). Often they hold certifications in specialized trainings such as DISC communications skills or ServSafe’s Food Protection Manager certification review course and examination. The SPHR and PHR certifications are earned by those who have mastered the human resources body of knowledge and demonstrated a commitment to personal excellence and to the HR profession. |
